Sopapillas (yeast Variation)

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 package active dry yeast

Recipe

  • 1 bring milk just to a boil.
  • 2 remove from heat and let cool.
  • 3 combine flour, salt and baking powder in medium bowl.
  • 4 cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal; make well in center.
  • 5 dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
  • 6 pour in 1/2 cup of the cooled milk.
  • 7 pour the yeast mixture into the center of dry ingredients.
  • 8 add additional milk if necessary so the dough just holds together.
  • 9 gather dough together and knead 15 times.
  • 10 cover with a cloth and let stand about 10 minutes.
  • 11 heat oil in a deep-fat fryer to 375 degrees.
  • 12 on a floured surface, roll out half the dough to a 1/4-inch sheet.
  • 13 cut into 9 triangles and cover with a towel to keep moist.
  • 14 repeat with the remaining dough.
  • 15 add a few to oil at a time.
  • 16 fry on both sides 3 to 5 minutes.
  • 17 drain on paper toweling.
