Traditional Irish Brown Soda Bread

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 500 g whole wheat flour
  • 150 g strong flour
  • 50 g oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 475 -725 ml sour milk (or fresh milk soured with juice of 1/2 lemon)

Recipe

  • 1 mix the dry ingredients very well.
  • 2 moisten with the sour milk to form a soft dough.
  • 3 knead lightly.
  • 4 form into a round, mark with a cross, place on a tin and bake for 30-45 minutes in the oven at 220°c.
