Sheepherder Bread

Ingredients

  • Servings: 18
  • 1 1/2 cups sourdough starter
  • 4 cups unbleached flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Recipe

  • 1 into a large bowl, sift the dry ingredients, and dig a well in the center of the sourdough starter.
  • 2 blend the dry mix into the starter from the edges with enough flour to knead until smooth and shiny.
  • 3 place in greased bowl and let rise until almost double.
  • 4 shape into 2 loaves and place in greased bread pans.
  • 5 bake at 375 degrees f until done.
