Spoon Bread

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 cup self-rising yellow cornmeal
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons shortening

Recipe

  • 1 scald milk and pour over meal; add cold water.
  • 2 mix in sugar, shortening, and beaten egg yolks.
  • 3 fold in stiffly beaten egg whites just before baking.
  • 4 pour into a well-greased, hot baking dish, (about 1 quart).
  • 5 bake 40 minutes in a hot oven, 400°f.
