Tropfkrapfen (drop Doughnuts)

Ingredients

  • Servings: 10
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 4 cups unbleached flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk or 3/4 cup sour milk
  • confectioners' sugar

Recipe

  • 1 cream the butter and sugar.
  • 2 stir in egg yolks and whole egg; blend.
  • 3 in a separate bowl, sift all dry ingredients except the confectioners' sugar; add to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  • 4 stir to mix all ingredients.
  • 5 cook by dropping spoonsfuls of dough into 375 degree f deep fat.
  • 6 fry a few at a time, to keep fat temperature constant.
  • 7 turn to brown on all sides.
  • 8 drain on paper towels; sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
