Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup shortening or 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 cup milk or 1 cup buttermilk
Recipe
- 1 mix together flour, baking powder and salt.
- 2 cut in shortening with 2 knives or a pastry blender, until mixture is the consistency of coarse cornmeal.
- 3 make a well in the centre of these ingredients, add liquid slowly.
- 4 when all the liquid has been added, stir dough rather vigoroursly until it comes freely from the side of the bowl.
- 5 turn dough onto lightly floured board and knead lightly for a few minutes.
- 6 roll or pat out to desired thickness, about 1/2 inch.
- 7 cut dough with 2 inch floured biscuit cutter, or floured open end of glass, place on ungreased baking sheet.
- 8 bake in a hot oven 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
