Savory Scone Roll

Ingredients

- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup milk
- 2 slices bacon, diced and cooked
- 1 cup grated aged cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon coarse grain mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 egg, beaten,to glaze
Recipe
- 1 sift flour, cayenne pepper and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- 2 rub butter into flour until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- 3 make a well in the center and gradually add milk, mixing with a knife to form a soft dough.
- 4 turn dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead.
- 5 roll out dough to form a rectangle, 12x10".
- 6 combine filling ingredients and sprinkle over dough leaving a 1" border of dough around the edges.
- 7 starting at the longest edge, roll up jelly roll fashion to enclose filling.
- 8 place seam side down on baking pan.
- 9 lightly brush with beaten egg.
- 10 bake at 400 degrees for approximately 20 minutes or until roll is well risen and golden brown, then serve hot.
